The Moby Dick Murder Mystery Floating Participatory Theatre

I collaborated with George Major again on a new project commissioned for the Dieppe & Newhaven Summer Festival, the “Moby Dick Murder Mystery Floating Participatory Theatre”. The piece loosely incorporates Moby Dick characters. Each participant is given a card with a character description and some vague clues on how to solve the Murder Mystery. Participants are asked to interact with each other and find out who killed Moby Dick.

We presented it on July 13th, aboard the 6pm Dieppe to Newhaven ferry. However by that date George had moved abroad so artist Natalie Sanders took his place. The cards were printed in English & French and it was the French version that really took off, with at one point all 15 characters playing and debating. The vagueness of the clues added to the confusion and the conversation gathered & lost momentum as the characters came & went.

And in stark contrast, the port of Newhaven in the morning and arriving at the port of Dieppe in the afternoon….
